Department of Chemistry

About the department:

The Department of Chemistry was established in 2005, M.Sc. Programme was started in the year 2013 followed by M.Phil Programme started at 2016. The department has facilitated with well experienced and qualified faculty members. The department offers under-graduate and post-graduate programs with the aim of producing chemists with high professional competence, in carrying out both basic and applied chemistry research. M.Sc. Chemistry syllabus provides an integrated and unified approach towards chemical sciences covering all branches of chemistry and following Choice Based Credit System with Outcome Based Education. The curriculum is rigorous in accord to excellent standards and covers theory and practical courses with full emphasis to construct intellectual assets. In the final semester, the PG students are encouraged to carry out research project to enhance their exposure level and placement abilities. The department laboratory is fully equipped with the latest instruments required to carry out practical experiments. The research has been carried out in frontier areas of chemistry such as environmental chemistry, electrochemistry, nano materials, coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, photochemistry, polymer chemistry and green chemistry.

  • PO-1 : To think critically and analyze chemical problems
  • PO-2 : To impart knowledge in advanced concepts and Applications in various fields of Chemistry
  • PO-3 : To provide wide choice of elective subjects with updated and new are as in various branches of Chemistry to meet the needs of all students
  • PO-4 : To use technologies and instrumentation together to explore new areas of research
  • PO-5 : To work as a member of interdisciplinary problem solving team and apply their scientific skill to innovative studies.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSO)

  • PSO-1 : Understand the fundamental concepts in Organic,Inorganic,physical and Analytical Chemistry
  • PSO-2 : Develop the analytical ability to perform scientific experiments skillfully by application of procedural knowledge
  • PSO-3 : Idea about research in chemistry and knowledge of the significance of the scientific concepts learnt which find application in industry, medicine and modern research.
  • PSO-4 : Improve a capacity of working in research labs and related fields.
